All sorts of interesting information is coming out of MWC lately, and one tidbit came in concerning Samsung’s Galaxy Tab.  We already learned that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 would drop the original GTab’s 7-inch size and move to a 10.1-inch display, but now the other shoe has dropped. A Samsung representative has said, reports Pocket-Lint, that the Galaxy Tab 2 will not be a 7-inch device. In fact they said in an interview that “Tablets should be bigger than 7-inch”.

Many Galaxy Tab buyers opted for the tablet specifically for its more portable size relative to the iPad. This seemed like a successful play for Samsung but it turns out that the size might just be too limiting. The article says that Samsung have a tablet portfolio, presumably offering a range of sizes though they put the optimum size at 10.1-inches–considerably larger than the 7-inch Galaxy Tab.

The article notes that the tweener size will still be covered by Samsung’s offerings, though it wasn’t made clear specifically how this would be handled. An obvious guess would be offering a 7-inch tablet in addition to the 10-incher but Samsung’s language was apparently quite strong saying, “7-inch device could not be considered a tablet”. This part of the market could be covered by larger phones 4.3-inches+ and smaller slates, if Samsung is sticking with their guns and not calling 7-inch devices tablets.
