Despite various online reports claiming that the new Verizon iPhone 4 would be free of the antenna issues that plagued the AT&T version, iLounge has discovered that the new smartphone is suffering the same fate.

We are not really surprised considering that we were told in a press conference last month that Verizon has made no significant changes in the antenna design (apart from optimizing the phone for CDMA use) to warrant a permanent fix.

As a result, if you hold your Verizon iPhone 4 in what the tech community calls the “Death grip”, you could see a significant drop in not just 3G data performance, but also Wi-Fi performance as well.

The Wi-Fi problem occurs when the phone is held in a landscape position. It’s a position you may use when say playing games, but as you can see in the video you have to be hugging the phone tightly, so we feel that this may not be too much of a problem as not that many people will actually hold their phones in this way (I know I don’t).

Similar to AT&T phones the problem may be isolated to certain individuals and may not be noticeable in areas where there is already a strong signal. Once again, the installation of a protective case seems to be the best bet for fixing the issue.

Once again, crApple fans are kinda clueless. Why in the world would you ever buy something you know is flawed. You wouldn’t buy a car if you knew something was wrong with it, why waste the money? I wish I had that disposable income. I guess I’m not one of the 14million upper class…must be nice.

Why the hell are you idiots making a big deal about this? Nobody holds their damn phone the way the drama queens at iLounge hold it.

Pointless post, geek.com – Congrats.
