Official Android 2.3.2 update for Samsung I9000 Galaxy S leaks

Yesterday the official Gingerbread update for the Samsung I9000 Galaxy S leaked in the XDA Developers forum. This means that the Galaxy S will indeed get the Gingerbread treatment, as we reported this weekend.

 

Note that this is the 2.3.2 version of Android and not version 2.3.3 that was released for the Google Nexus S and Nexus One earlier last week.

The leaked source code is still in a beta stage and some people report that either it's not working properly, or they can't get it to work at all. For most users though there seem to be no problems.

LG promises at least one next-version update for each Optimus

What you expect when you buy an android smartphone of your choice ? Well it could be anything in your concern but you may want your smartphone to upgrade after you unwrap it from the box, isn’t it ? But at that initial stage of buying that android device doesn’t assures you that if it will ever be updated or not. On the other hand, Google casts foremost new edition of Android every six months however there is no way of assuring that your device will ever obtain a newer firmware than what it came with out of the box. Microsoft resumes the February WP7 update for Samsung phones

 

It looks like Microsoft has ironed out the issues that plagued the first update for their WP7 mobile platform. The issues that lead to bricking of some Samsung Omnia 7 units are now taken care of and the update has been made available once again.

Microsoft has been pushing the update since yesterday and we are getting no user reports of bricked devices so far.

The company didn't say what the "technical issue" with the Samsung WP7 smartphones was, but it's a good thing they fixed it so quickly.

The update is being sent-out on a rolling schedule and your WP7 device will notify you when it has arrived. Have in mind, though that the update itself is not available over the air and you will need to plug your handset into your computer and use Zune to get it.

Microsoft are also still sending the update to Windows Phone 7 devices from other manufacturers, so even if you haven't received yours there's no reason to worry just yet.

Now that they have this one cleared we are hoping they will get back to work on the major update. We'd love to try some copy/paste and voice-guided navigation on WP7.

Microsoft releases first Windows Phone 7 update, here is how to get it

If you are using a windows mobile phone then someone from you might have noticed that pop-ups are appearing on the screen notifying you about the software update which has been made available by Microsoft. Gingerbread update arrives for Nexus One, Nexus S gets NFC update

The Gingerbread update for the popular Nexus One was supposed to happen last November, but the latest reports show that the 2.3 update has finally made it to the platform this week. But that’s not all, Nexus S owners will get an OTA update too.

Hopefully by now users with this phone will get a message signaling that the 2.3 firmware can be downloaded (however, we recommended doing this over a Wi-Fi connection), but as with most updates you may need to wait a few days for this to appear as Google will likely push this out incrementally to avoid overloading their servers.

As for the Nexus S which already has 2.3, the update will feature various bug fixes in the shape of fixing random reboot issues, changes in the way Facebook syncing works, performance enhancements and additional support for its Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.

PR 1.1 firmware update for the N8 and C6-01 early next week

Nokia today announced that PR 1.1 firmware update for their new Symbian ^3 devices – the Nokia N8 and C6-01, following yesterday's release for the C7, will be released early next week. The update aims at providing further performance boost and stability improvements.

Most of the updated features are not directly visible to end users, but together, they enhance the user experience of each Symbian device. Both the quality and the stability of the devices is further enhanced. In addition to numerous tweaks and fixes, there's also some new content. Details are as follows:

* Meeting requests can be accepted directly from email invitations

* Maps integration in email, which means people can view the meeting location on the map when the address is mentioned in the location field in the invite.

* New QuickOffice 6.4 editor version on the N8, which offers editing possibilities and allows zooming in & out in Word documents.

* Three high quality games will also be preloaded on new devices – Need for Speed Shift, Real Golf and Galaxy on Fire (in some countries, Need for Speed is replaced with Asphalt 5). For current N8 users, these are available for free from Ovi Suite & Ovi Store.

You will be able to get the update through the SW Update application on your device or using the Ovi Suite. The update may be quite a large download, especially for Nokia N8 users, so make sure you're on a free WiFi service when you choose to update or use Ovi Suite to install it. The standard, non-customised version of the software will come first and country (SIM-free) and operator-specific variants will follow.

Sony Ericsson LiveView update is here, improves compatibility

Back in September Sony Ericsson announced its new gadget for Android devices - LiveView. It?s a Bluetooth wristwatch that can remote control your phone. The LiveView is now getting an update that brings improved stability, compatibility with other Android handhelds and the number of available plug-ins raises to a total of 30.

With the number of compatible apps growing in the Android Market, LiveView has the potential to become a must-have accessory.

Some connection issues have reportedly been solved with the new update, although the Sony Ericsson official blog actually says ?most identified reasons for random disconnects?, so that?s not exactly all, is it?

The crashes that users have reported have also been resolved, so here?s where active user feedback is paying off. Also automatic reconnect has been implemented, which means that should you leave the device and disconnect, upon coming in its range it will automatically connect you again.

Also compatibility with competitor?s phones has been vastly improved. That means that you don?t have to be limited to using only Sony Ericsson?s Android portfolio and can use LiveView with almost any Android device out there that has version 2.0 or higher. Though there are still some stability and reconnection issues with certain phones running Android 2.2 Froyo, the Sony Ericsson support page claims a simple reboot is all that?s needed to fix those.

Nokia Ovi Suite 3.0.0.289 update

New Nokia Ovi Suite 3.0.0.289 update is now available for download. This new version comes with simplified ovi.com contacts synchronization and critical fixes to device connectivity in Nokia Ovi Suite. You can download installation package from Nokia Ovi Suite's Beta Labs download page.

Key changes in this release:
