A bunch of new information about BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) 4.0 has appeared thanks to documents leaked online. The BIS is what individuals use to handle email to and from their BlackBerry device in lieu of a Blackberry Server used by most enterprises. New features offered by the forthcoming BIS include integration with the BlackBerry ID (BBID), improved BIS end user communications, automatic login improvements, support for new service tiers, and Google Calendar improvements.
By having a BIS account associated with a BBID, users will be able to enter their BBID on a handheld with BlackBerry OS 6.1 to switch all services, including a BIS email account, to the new device. BIS 4 also improves end user communications by moving from the traditional text based messages to rich text messages with the BlackBerry logo. Messages will appear at the top of an Inbox even after other messages are received to ensure they are read. Communications have been improved to reduce the number of support calls received.
Also hoping to reduce support calls is the automatic login improvements to BIS. They eliminate the need for a user to remember a username and password when using an email setup application on OS 6.0 and above devices.
The final two improvements include Google Calendar synchronization enhancements and changes to the user interface. Google Calendar sync improvements include delete sync for events that belong to a deleted calendar and status field sync. User interface changes include the removal of import control and clearer text regarding entering a security question and answer.
We reported back in January that Crackberry got their hands on a leaked 2011 CDMA BlackBerry roadmap which included the mention of a new BlackBerry touch screen device codenamed Monaco. According to the roadmap, Monaco is set for release in July or August of this year. We even got a peek at the specs for Monaco thanks to a leaked slide:

Now CrackBerry have outdone themselves again. Rather than be content with static photos of the device, the site has been able to get their hands on a YouTube video which shows the Monaco device in action. Luckily, the video was downloaded before the user who posted pulled it. He probably decided it wasn’t a good idea to post video about a device which isn’t even supposed to be known to the public yet.
It’s not clear whether Monaco will receive the Storm brand, but based on the video it will have many of the same features that made the BlackBerry Storm popular.
It is believed that Monaco will be officially announced in May at BlackBerry World.
The folks at Research In Motion (RIM) are having one heck of a time keeping their upcoming Blackberry models under wraps. First, the company had to deal with a leaked CDMA roadmap detailing upcoming phones and their release schedules. Earlier this week, someone was caught posting video of Monaco, a codename for what many people believe will be the BlackBerry Storm 3. Now we have the first live pictures of a BlackeBerry Bold Touch Dakota/Montana.

Looking back at the leaked 2011 CDMA roadmap, it looks like we can expect the CDMA version of the BlackBerry Bold Touch in August of this year. At least we now have a live picture of what it will look like. Previous images had been only computer renderings.
BlackBerry needs to circle the wagons on the rash of leaks the company has seen over the last few weeks. It is losing a competitive advantage if rivals know what phones along with what features will be available well in advance of the actual release.
If anyone who works at RIM is aware of an internal witch hunt as a result of all these leaks please let us know. After all, it seems like RIM employees or those affiliated with the company are all too happy to talk.

It’s that time of the year when almost all major phone manufacturers and mobile telephony enthusiasts have their eyes set on the biggest mobile event of the year – the Mobile World Congress. This year too, the event is scheduled to take place starting the second week of February. It has been a norm of sorts for major phone makers to launch their devices on the eve of the MWC. However, the days prior to the event have also been a cause of minor headaches for companies thanks to an array of “leaks” of unreleased products. Continuing that tradition, it seems we have some information about a new phone that LG is likely to show off at the MWC. The hitherto unheard of device belongs to LG’s Optimus range and is known as Optimus 3D – making us wonder about the possible 3D abilities this might possess. The phone was leaked inadvertently by a Dutch retailer ThePhoneHouse on one of their web pages. It was soon pulled away – but not before people took a screenshot for the world to see.
Thankfully for LG, nothing much except for the name has been revealed. The site did not reveal any specs or even an image of the upcoming device. The device shown besides the name happened to be an already released Optimus One.
We wait patiently for this one to be revealed at the MWC (hopefully!)
