Nvidia Tegra Zone is now active, LG Optimus 2X coming this month

NVIDIA announced today that their Tegra Zone application for Android is now official. It nicely coincides with LG announcing that the dual-core Optimus 2X will launch this month. Tegra Zone is an Android app that will offer Tegra 2 users suggestions about games, optimized especially for their dual-core chipset.

 

The Tegra Zone app looks really nice. It offers high resolution screenshots and professional reviews of the games. Even HD video trailers and gameplay videos are included.

Among the titles available at launch are Fruit Ninja THD, Monster Madness, Dungeon Defenders, Backbreaker THD and the first games on Android, built on the Unreal Engine 3 - Samurai II: Vengeance and Galaxy on Fire 2 THD. Here are some screenshots for you guys to enjoy.

Sadly, though, all the games featured so far are paid - there's no bonus content for Tegra 2 users.

If you still haven't been hooked up with a Tegra 2 phone or a tablet, you'd be happy to know that LG is launching its Optimus 2X smartphone this month. The phone will launch with Froyo but will be updated to Gingerbread afterwards. There's no info on specific launch dates or pricing.

Current pre-order prices will set you back either 500 euro (Amazon.de) or 500 pounds (Expansys UK).

The NVIDIA Tegra 2-powered Samsung I9103 Galaxy S II is real

NVIDIA just went ahead and confirmed the existence of a Tegra 2 version of the Samsung Galaxy S II. The Korean company announced that their Super AMOLED Plus-packing flagship was going to run on the home-brewed Exynos chipset, but supply shortages has forced them to come up with a Tegra 2 alternative.

Samsung I9103 Galaxy S II entered rumorland back in February. It seems that Samsung will be unable to provide enough Exynos chips for all those Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the Galaxy S II units it plans to sell. Fortunately NDIVIA doesn't mind helping Samsung out with this one.

The performance of the two SoCs should be similar, so those that end up buying the Tegra 2 Galaxy S II shouldn't be too disappointed. After all some of the main rivals of the Galaxy S II (the Atrix and the Optimus 2X) are already using the Tegra 2 so the I9103 won't be, by any means, inferior to them.

The availability of the two different Galaxy S II versions is yet to be announced. All we know right now is that the separation will be geographical.

Does Samsung have a Tegra 2 Galaxy S II I9103 in line too ?

At MWC 2011, Samsung curtain lifted the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Galaxy Tab 2) which will feature CPU based on Tegra 2 (T20) SoC which at present is top most considered for integration in the upcoming and latest released smartphones and tablets, but on the same hand at the press conference held by Samsung, they declared that Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the Galaxy S II will equip Samsung's own Exynos SoC. Who knows what will these to new devices ship but Samsung has given Tegra 2 priority and is working on to unleash Galaxy S II (GT-19103) and so the proof comes right from their benchmark scores containing information that this new upcoming smartphone will feature NVIDIA dual-core Tegra 2 SoC as a replacement for Samsung's own Exynos platform.

However with this news on hand, its still not precise whether the new model name mentioned would break cover or the same Samsung Galaxy S II (GT-19000) will dispatch with two diverse processor platforms, depending on the region. Samsung gives an impression of being smarter when it comes to marketing because if they had announced two versions of the samrtphone based on two different CPU platforms, then they would have confused the users, so they decided earlier to disclose it.

You may be eager to get your hands on the Tegra 2 operated superphone but indeed it won’t make a whole lot of change in the performance, you can count on a little bit change, that’s all ! Now it all depends whether Samsung is steadfast to their upgrade/change in the platform or they will manage to adjust with their same CPU platform the “Exynos processor”.

LG’s Nvidia Tegra 2 Powered Optimus 2X Goes On Sale In Korea

If there is one smartphone that can boast of totally out of this world specs at this moment, I bet there is only one contender around. LG’s Android powered Optimus 2X. This monster of a phone complete with a dual Core Tegra 2 processor and support for full HD video recording makes its stand out from the rest of the smartphone crowd. Announced back in December 2010, the phone was expected to arrive in markets around the globe starting January 2011. And that is exactly what is happening now.

LG has launched the device in its home country Korea. Lucky Koreans would be able to get the phone on the SK Telecom network – the largest mobile operator in that country. The phone is currently available in the standard black color. However, the company has confirmed that they would follow it up with a white version in February.
If you are still not well versed with the Optimus 2X specs, here’s a brief idea of what the spec sheet reads:
