HTC ChaCha is going to be called ChaChaCha in Spain

 

HTC is having some trouble with one of their newly announced Facebook phones. Apparently ChaCha sounds much like a vulgar Spanish word so the handset will be marketed as HTC ChaChaCha in Spanish-speaking countries instead.

Obviously someone over at the HTC PR center didn't do their homework. After all Spanish is one of the most popular languages in the world and failing to do some research on it for your new model names is a pretty bad mistake.

Also I can't quite understand why didn't they pick the much simpler Cha, but that's a whole other story.

This is the second time HTC gets in trouble, because of the ChaCha. The mobile search engine ChaCha has already taken the Taiwanese company to court for trademark infringement.

And speaking of bad names, we bet they don't even have a clue how much they've messed up with the name of Incredible S. If you don't see what our point is, just try saying that out loud.

Now what interests us the most is when HTC is going to bring the smartphone to the market, regardless of the naming they pick. The specs might not be exactly high-end, but that extended Facebook integration makes us eager to try it out.

Nokia's MeeGo device will be called N950, will be out this year

Despite the shift towards Windows Phone 7, Nokia will still ship a MeeGo device this year. It's going to be the successor to the Nokia N900 and will be called the N950. We don't have a photo of the device yet, but Nokia gave reassurances that they are committed to MeeGo, Symbian, Qt and S40 too.

At Nokia's Developer Day, Nokia's CTO Rich Green gave an extensive talk about the future of current Nokia platforms, MeeGo included. He said that they're working hard on the N950 and have come up with some "very elegant" hardware and interesting UI.

That's all we have on the Nokia N950 - the Nokia N9 (which was rumored as the coming MeeGo device) might have been canceled and Nokia showed absolutely no new devices at the MWC.

Green assured the attending developers that the Nokia N950 is well-stocked as a developer platform and says "we'll see how that goes". It sounds like the N950 is aimed more towards devs than the mass market user (not surprising since MeeGo was re-targeted towards long-term market exploration).

Nokia's strategy still relies on Qt development for both Symbian and MeeGo and pushing forward with Java on Series 40, so work on those platforms continues. S40 will be getting a new Ovi Browser that aims to bring mobile Internet connectivity to hundreds of millions of people.

Sony Ericsson Halon to be called XPERIA Neo, fight agent Smith?

Nothing stays a secret on the Internet for very long - the latest reveal is the alleged retail name for the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Halon (which also goes by Vivaz 2). The name is XPERIA Neo, which sparks instant association of the iconic character from the Matrix.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo uses the same camera as the XPERIA Arc, an 8MP Exmor R sensor that can record 720p videos. The camera placement is reminiscent of the Vivaz, explaining the "Vivaz 2" name.

The Neo name though marks a new beginning - the aging Symbian OS is giving way to a shiny new Android 2.3 Gingerbread with the same customized UI as the XPERIA Arc.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Neo is not yet officially announced (it will be announced at the MWC alongside the XPERIA Play) but that didn't stop the first preview from hitting the web. We know some of the hardware specs already - FWVGA screen (480x854) and 1GHz Snapdragon platform with 512MB RAM.
