T-Mobile to shut down Danger Servers sealing original Sidekicks’ fate

T-Mobile announced recently that before its starts to roll out the next-gen Android Sidekicks, it will be on clean up duty and finally killing off the Microsoft Danger servers that power the current crop of Sidekicks.

First released back in 2002, the Sidekick was a social-centric propriety smartphone that was aimed at the younger generations. Switching off the Danger servers will effectively demote the handset to a text and call platform only. This is mainly because Danger was a cloud based solution so it required a connection to the service to bring all the social networking goodies to the end-user.

T-Mobile is not leaving users of the aging Sidekick totally in the dark, though, as they will be helping owners move to the newer Sidekick with various deals. T-Mobile will also provide a web based export service so customers can transfer their contacts, photos and other data from the Danger service to the new platform.

No doubt it was Microsoft’s influence, and the huge outage back in the fall of 2009, that has led to Danger’s demise.

Two days of free phones from T-Mobile, smartphones galore

T-Mobile USA has picked Khloe Kardashian to play cupid - and set you up with a nice new phone for free. For two days, you can go and get a phone from one of their stores, and choose from any one of 30 models.

It's not totally free of course, you still need to sign a 2 year contract, but the good news is that the deal is available for both new and existing customers, ones that are upgrading and ones that are adding a new line.

The promotion will last two days - February 11 and 12 (that's this Friday and Saturday). The deal is on the table while supplies last and not all locations are participating. Also the deals on some phones may require a mail-in rebate, so you may need to put some cash upfront.

You can choose from phones like the T-Mobile myTouch 4G, T-Mobile G2, Samsung Vibrant, HTC HD7 and others. Even the latest available models will be included. The keyword here is "available" - something that the Samsung Galaxy S 4G isn't.

Tomorrow, Khloe Kardashian will post a "special Valentine's video" on T-Mobile's YouTube and Facebook pages. You can check out a quick teaser here.

This deal sounds like a great opportunity for those looking to retire their old phone, Valentine's day or not. Plus, the money you save can go towards getting a better gift for your loved one.

You can also check out the online store for some more free phones - nothing as exciting as those high-end smartphones though.

Not-blurry photos of Samsung Galaxy S 4G for T-Mobile appear

New photos of T-Mobile's Samsung Galaxy S 4G give us a better look at the phone - and you shouldn't be surprised to hear it looks almost exactly like the Vibrant. It's similar on the inside too, save for the faster mobile data connectivity and a couple of other goodies.

The Samsung Galaxy S 4G is part of the Galaxy S line (the name really gives it away) but it uses an HSPA+ chipset capable of 21Mbps speeds. T-Mobile is calling it 4G, even though that's not technically true.

A video call camera graces the front of the Galaxy S 4G, which was omitted from the Samsung Vibrant. The regular I9000 Galaxy S does have a secondary camera though.

Anyway, another noticeable change seems to be the color of the back - it looks matte brown instead of piano black with a blue dots "galactic" pattern. This may be the fastest way to tell the Galaxy S 4G and the Vibrant apart.

The rest of the insides are unchanged from the mainline Galaxy S. Still, the Galaxy S 4G in the photos reportedly ran Android 2.2 Froyo, which may be the OS version at launch. The launch is slated for 23 February according to leaked slides. The first official announcement was vague at best.

U.s. T-Mobile considering asset sale

Speaking today at investor event, Deutsche Telekom CEO Rene Obermann said that T-Mobile USA to sell non-core assets to consider such as its cellular towers to raise money for investment in the future if necessary. Obermann and Philipp Humm's new Chief Executive Officer of T-Mobile USA have been discussing the future of the country's fourth leading. Part of the program of the company will reduce churn (session rate to over client) 2% in 2011, 1.8% in 2012. Managers also indicated that the Galaxy Samsung's 4 G and 4 G G Sidekick 4, panels will start during the first half of 2011. Sprint cellular towers and passed his number of years in order to reduce the expenses.

T-Mobile MyTouch 3 G arrives Nov. 3 for $ 200

It is almost a month ago, T-Mobile was first introduced the latest member of the family MyTouch, and now we finally have a release date, prices, and a new name.
T-Mobile MyTouch 3 G (formerly only T-Mobile MyTouch) will be available from 3 November for $ 199.99 with a two-year contract and after a $ 50 mail-in rebate. Android 2.2 unit of air carriers, other smartphone offer HSPA + support and will also provide Wi-Fi calling.
MyTouch 3 G also has a 1 GHz processor, a 5-megapixel camera and a front-facing VGA camera for video chat and a functionality called Media room, which will service as a hub for all your phone's multimedia capabilities.

Samsung and T-Mobile confirm Vibrant 4G

Details are few, but the Vibrant 4G is coming.

Moments after T-Mobile CEO Philipp Humm mentioned the upcoming Samsung Vibrant 4G at a press conference in New York, T-Mobile and Samsung confirmed the news in a press release.
The statement doesn't say much, which makes us think that Humm got ahead of himself in spilling the beans about the Vibrant. T-Mobile won't confirm specs or a release date at the time of this writing, though it promised to reveal more details in the coming weeks.
Yet, we do have an inkling of what the Vibrant 4G should offer. Compatibility with T-Mobile's HSPA+ 4G network is a given, of course, but we're also expecting the handset to bring a front-facing camera, Android 2.2 (Froyo), Qik (video chat), support doubleTwist Air Sync, and a preloaded copy of the movie "Inception."

T-Mobile CEO Confirms Sidekick and Samsung 4G Phones

Speaking at an event, T-Mobile USA's new CEO, Philipp Humm, confirmed that the company plans to launch a 4G version of its Sidekick messenger phones and a 4G version of the Samsung Galaxy S. Humm said, "We will launch as new the Samsung Galaxy S 4G ... and coming soon, will also be a Sidekick 4G. Everybody knows the Sidekick, and we're going to relaunch the Sidekick and bring it as a 4G device, Android based, into the market." Humm didn't provide specific details about the devices, nor did he say what speeds the new devices would actually provide. Samsung has already hinted that it plans major announcements for next month's Mobile World Congress event, and has a press conference scheduled for February 13.
